In light of the announcement of a Rugrats reboot, it’s time we discuss shows from our childhood that are making a comeback.
Reboots are at an all-time high (and nothing is sacred) but instead of moping about ruined childhoods, why not share the love with your kid? Our childhood was a magical time and the shows we watched were a huge part of that experience. Now that you’re grown with kids of your own, giving them the magical experiences you had growing up would be the best kind of bonding experience you can have.
First things first, the Arthur theme song. (No, Arthur is not making a comeback. However, we do have this lovely cover from Ziggy Marley, Jon Baptiste, Stephen Colbert, and Chance the Rapper.)
1. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Airing since 2010, My Little Pony arrived on-screen, in stores, and back into the hearts of little girls. Bringing their magical brand of friendship and rainbows, the new reboot brings along the Equestria Girls, and once again teaches young girls all over the world that friendship is magic.
2. Girl Meets World
In this spin-off of Boy Meets World, the Cory and Topanga we knew are now parents to two kids. Their eldest, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), stars as the titular Girl going on adventures and taking in life lessons with her very own Shawn—Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Watch out for cameos from all your old favorites like Mr. Feeny and Farkle, as your kid gets to ride through adolescence with Riley and Maya.
DuckTales comes back with a 2017 update, 30 years after the original, with Huey, Dewey, and Louie still going on grand chases and great adventures with their dear old Uncle Scrooge. With David Tennant as the voice of Scrooge McDuck, and Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey, and Louie, respectively, as Donald Duck’s nephews, have your kid learn about amazing adventures all over the world.
4. Magic School Bus
The acclaimed educational series last aired in 1997 and was revived by Netflix in 2017, which had Ms. Frizzle (Lily Tomlin) pass over the keys of the school bus to her younger sister, Fiona Frizzle (Kate McKinnon). Embark on the journey once again as the bus goes through time, discovers unique locations, and learns more about science and the world around us.
5. Carmen Sandiego
Are you ready, gumshoes? Carmen Sandiego is coming back for a 2019 revival with Gina Rodriguez voicing the titular criminal mastermind. The 20-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix, with a film in the works as well. Flex your kids’ detective skills and set them off on an adventure around the globe, asking the question: where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
