Jennifer Aniston recently graced the cover of InStyle. In an interview with Molly McNeary (Jimmy Kimmel’s wife and one of Aniston’s closest friends) Jennifer addressed the rumors of her divorce to actor Justin Theroux. Amidst the gossip and the tabloid headlines, not only does she explain her side of the story, but she also explains the difficulty of dealing with rumors such as these.
“The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken. First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me,” Aniston says in the interview. She adds, “They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally. There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”
Here are 3 reasons why we agree with Jennifer:
1. She Understands Responsibility
There’s a difference between having a baby and being a mother and Jen understands that. The commitment to take care of your child is beyond the nine months it spends inside your belly – it’s a lifetime commitment. Furthermore, it takes a lot of love, time, and effort. From the first few months even up to your child’s college graduation, your child’s growth requires your genuine and almost undivided attention.
2. She Has Her Priorities Set
Jennifer is a goal-oriented woman and we respect her for it. She’s a successful actress who has appeared in numerous hit shows and movies – and she wants to do more. Not even Justin can tell her to stop working so they can start building their family. Ultimately, that choice is hers alone.
3. She Has Every Right to Decide How She Wants to Take Care of Her Body
Every mother knows the toll having a baby takes on their bodies. The physical changes that happen before, during, and after pregnancy can be quite drastic. And as someone who takes pride in the hard work she does, perhaps giving birth is not a priority given the body changes she’ll undergo in the process. Getting rid of excess weight post-pregnancy is not an easy task even if your a Hollywood A-lister.
With everyone talking about women’s rights and the #MeToo movement, one should also consider that what is best for one person isn’t exactly the best for another. Every woman is unique as proven by Jennifer. And whether she decides to have a baby or not is not up to her fans but hers alone.
